I live in an area that gets moderate snow (maybe 10-15 snow days a year) and I'm trying to decide between dedicated winter tires or just good all-seasons like the Michelin CrossClimate 2. I know winter tires are objectively better in snow and ice. But I live in an apartment with no storage space for extra tires, and swapping them twice a year is both a cost and a hassle. Anyone running the CrossClimate 2 or similar all-weather tires in real winter conditions? Are they actually a viable middle ground?

I run CrossClimate 2s year-round in a region with harsh winters and they're excellent. Not quite as good as dedicated Blizzaks on ice, but 90% of the performance with zero hassle.

In Germany, winter tires are legally required in winter conditions. The rubber compound alone makes a huge difference below 7°C even on dry roads.

Some tire shops offer seasonal storage for about $50-75/year. Might be worth looking into if you're tight on space.
